Banxico’s presidency nominee sets goals to fight inflation and secure autonomy

Victoria Rodríguez Ceja assured that the Bank of Mexico's autonomy will be maintained outside the federal government's decisions.
In her first statement, after being nominated as governor of the Bank of Mexico, Victoria Rodríguez Ceja said that her major goal will be to fight inflation and not to touch international reserves if the Senate ratifies her.
Accompanied by the Secretary of Finance, Rogelio Ramírez de la O, the still Undersecretary of Expenditures pledged to respect the autonomy of the central bank, which has been one of the main doubts among market analysts.
"My commitment is to fight inflation, not to touch international reserves, and to comply with Banco de México's autonomy," said Rodríguez Ceja in a message.
Last Wednesday, the Mexican President, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, made Rodriguez's nomination official after reconsidering the appointment of Arturo Herrera, who served as his Secretary of Finance.
Rogelio Ramírez de la O, who took over from Herrera, acknowledged Rodríguez Ceja's abilities and was pleased that she's the first woman to be nominated to lead the country's monetary policy efforts.
Rodríguez also pointed out that the government and the agency she is in charge of will remain on the sidelines of the decisions considered by Banxico as an autonomous entity, so her performance should not be a concern for anyone.
"We are pleased because she would be the first woman to occupy this important position. We will remain busy ensuring the stability of public finances and serving Mexico," Ramírez de la O said.
"We are committed to preserving sound public finances and also to respecting Banco de México's autonomy," the official assured.
