Colombia registered 127 foreign investment projects in the first half of the year

The new projects and their execution foresee the creation of over 50,200 direct and indirect jobs. These investments come from 32 countries. 

In the first half of the year, Colombia registered 127 projects with new investments and reinvestments, businesses totaling US$7.642 billion, according to ProColombia. The amount represents an increase of 10.5% concerning the same period of 2021 when 110 initiatives estimated at US$6,912 million arrived.

The investments come from 32 countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Spain, Germany, Mexico, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, South Korea, France, India, Japan, Guatemala, Peru, Singapore, Sweden, Switzerland, Uruguay, among others.

The new projects and their execution are expected to create over 50,200 direct and indirect jobs.

“These 127 new projects ratify investor confidence in Colombia. They are synonymous with growth, diversification, and employment opportunities in the country,” said Flavia Santoro, president of ProColombia. “We remain committed to accompanying the boom and development of international companies that find in our territory an optimal platform for export and expansion in the region.”

According to Santoro, the initiatives reached Antioquia (18), Valle del Cauca (8), Bolívar (9), Atlántico (6), Boyacá (4), Cesar (3), Caldas (2), Cundinamarca (6), Huila (1), La Guajira (2), Meta (2), Nariño (1), Norte de Santander (2), Quindío (2), Santander (4), Sucre (1) and Bogotá (56).

Agribusiness, BPO, renewable energies, infrastructure, tourism, construction materials, metal mechanics, and retail are some sectors in which investment was concentrated.

According to ProColombia, in the last four years, five investors from four countries have reported the start of five mega investment projects in the country.

These mega-projects have an estimated value of US$4,649 million and are expected to generate 13,762 direct and indirect jobs during their development.

Among the mega-investments of this period are those of the Softbank innovation fund for US$1 billion directed to the Colombian multi-Latin Rappi, also the investments of SeaOne Holdings with a compressed natural gas terminal that includes the development of the port, the energy port, fuel storage, and power generation through two thermal plants, and the investments of The AES Corporation in renewable energy projects, a new mobile telephone operator, and an investment fund in an infrastructure project.
