The French General Directorate of Public Finance has announced that companies and self-employed taxpayers will be able to postpone without penalty upcoming tax payments due to the public health emergency.
According to the tax authorities, these "exceptional measures to support businesses" are in line with the coronavirus policy announcements made by French President Emmanuel Macron on March 12, 2020.
Under the measures, companies can submit requests to the corporate tax department to defer their next due dates for direct taxes. Companies that have already paid taxes due in March may also be able to request reimbursement of these amounts.
Additionally, self-employed taxpayers will be able to defer payment of withholding tax on professional income by one month up to three times if they pay on a monthly basis. Those paying tax on a quarterly basis will also be able to delay tax payments until the following quarter.
Furthermore, those with monthly payment plans set up for the CFE local business tax (Contribution Fonciere des Entreprises) and property tax can suspend their direct debits via their online tax accounts.
