Domestic tourism in El Salvador grows 22% in income

It is also estimated that the government, through the Salvadoran Institute of Tourism, has invested around $30 million. 

El Salvador’s domestic tourism was reactivated little by little thanks to the beaches, recreational parks, mountains, and other sites that supported the growth of the sector’s income of about 22% during the first three months of the year, collecting only in domestic tourism about $99.7 million according to data from the Salvadoran Institute of Tourism.

It is also estimated that the government, through the Salvadoran Institute of Tourism, or ISTU for its acronym in Spanish, has invested around $30 million to improve different tourist sites, to boost the economy and development of communities by supporting the tourism portfolio.

This institute emphasized that the security strategy helped this growth as Salvadorans’ confidence in visiting different tourist destinations in the country increased.

The president of ISTU, Eny Aguiñada, highlighted as major destinations the recreational parks, as well as new restaurants and hotels as the main generators of this growth.

“There are 14 ISTU parks distributed in eight departments that we have, so we invite the population to visit them and tell them that if they stopped going because they were neglected in the past, today they have a new face,” Aguiñada emphasizes.

It is expected that the project of the amusement park in the port of La Libertad, which is 90% complete, will strengthen the Surf City project that already has the Sea Market, the Gastronomic Plaza, and the Walter Thilo Deininger Park. This city is expected to be a point of reference for national and foreign surfers.
